ON November 26, 2020, the sad news story of the murder of the Olufon of Ifon in Ondo state, Oba Isreal Adeusi by yet to be identified gunmen while going back to his palace from Akure broke. What did Oba Adeusi do? Who killed him? We are of the opinion that the Inspector General of Police will use his good offices to expose the perpetrators of this heinous crime.
Oba Adeusi must not die in vain. The international community has expressed its fear over the rising cases of kidnapping and killing in Nigeria. Kidnappers and gunmen have continued to kill and hold the people of Ondo state hostage. The killing of Madam Funke Olakunrin (daughter of Afenifere leader, Pa Fasoranti) is an example.
Chief Olu Falae was not left out of this as the former secretary of government of the Federation was kidnapped on his farm. Chief Musibau Adetunbi (SAN), an Ibadan based legal icon was also kidnapped along Ondo state road. This is totally unacceptable.
The news that a first class Oba in Yoruba land could be murdered like a chicken is shocking. A Yoruba proverb says: Iku to npa ojugba eni, owe lo npa fun ni, meaning, the killing of an acquaintance is a message. I want to plead with President Muhammadu Buhari to beef up security around all the first class Obas in Yoruba land and every Nigerian.
The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Adamu owes a duty to fish out the heartless men who killed Oba Isreal Adeusi. This calls for proper investigation. Urgent steps should be taken to prevent future occurrence
