The National Youth Service Corps(NYSC) has called for the intervention of States and Local Governments in addressing operational challenges occasioned by dilapidated orientation camp facilities and inadequate office accommodation for state secretariats.
The Director-General (DG) stated this at the opening of the 2021 NYSC annual management conference in Abuja.
According to him, the desire to find solutions to challenges facing the scheme led to the advocacy for the establishment of the NYSC trust fund.
“Despite its accomplishments, the scheme is faced with operational challenges occasioned by dilapidated orientation camp facilities, inadequate office accommodation for State secretariats and non-fulfilment of statutory responsibilities by some stakeholders among others,” he said.
He further noted that the conference seeks to consolidate and come up with fresh ideas and initiatives that enable the scheme to operate optimally while being responsive to national needs.
The DG stressed that the Scheme remains a national asset which plays vital roles in the promotion of peaceful co-existence among people of diverse cultural background through the deployment of Corps members to locations away from their states of origins.
