Northern traditional rulers’ council calls for caution amid Kano Emirate crisis

The Northern Traditional Rulers’ Council has called for caution over the present crisis that has engulfed the Kano Emirates over who is the Emir of the ancient Emirate.

The call was contained in a widely circulated press release signed by His Highness, Justice Lawal Hassan Gummi OFR, Emir of Gummi, Chairman Coordinating Committee, Northern Traditional Rulers Council (NTRC).

The release reads: “The Northern Traditional Ruling Council, under the Chairmanship of His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, notes with concern the situation in Kano as it affects our revered institution.”

“The Council, with all sense of responsibility, calls for restraint on the part of the disputants in the interest of peace and stability, moreso as the matter has reportedly gone to court and is therefore sub-judice,” the release further contained.

It concluded by stating that the Council prays Almighty Allah for peace to reign in Kano in particular and Nigeria in general.”
