Some widows could not hold their tears of joy as they received bags of rice, wrappers and cash gifts from a Nollywood actress, Favor Nwaoma Ogochukwu Onyebuch at a humanitarian outreach organised in Asaba in memory of her late mother who also died a widow.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Okoroafor, who has been struggling with depression following the death of her husband three years ago said the gifts would help improve her petty business and ease the burden of catering for her children.
“With the gifts I got today, life can only get better. Apart from the wrappers, I will use the money given to me to support my small, petty business.
Just like others, Mrs Okoroafor prayed to God to enrich the actress more for remembering widows.
The popular actress, comedienne, YouTuber and content creator, fondly known by her stage name, Favour Oma, was celebrating her birth anniversary as she put smiles on the faces of over 100 widows
Apart from distribution of relief materials, the event dedicated to her mother, Mrs Rose Onyebuchi, also featured free medical screenings for diabetes, blood pressure and other health-related challenges affecting widows and residents who attended the programme.
Speaking at the occasion, Favor Oma said the outreach was inspired by the painful experience of losing her mother, adding that helping widows had always remained close to her heart.
“I am doing this for the sake of my late mother, Mrs Rose Onyebuchi, who died a widow. I decided to do this even when she is no more here. Giving has been one of my favourites. I love giving.

“This outreach is like one of my dreams come true. Giving, especially to those who don’t have, makes me happy. Because my late mother died a widow, that is why I tagged this programme widows outreach’ in her memory.”
An indigene of Amorka community in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, the actress described the outreach as the best birthday celebration she had ever experienced.
She called on governments, corporate organisations and well-meaning Nigerians to support widows and vulnerable persons, especially those battling emotional trauma and economic hardship.
She expressed concern over the number of widows discovered during the medical outreach to have high blood pressure, stressing that more attention should be paid to their healthcare needs.
“For me, donating BP machines to them is not actually the problem, but how they can use them, because most of them don’t know how to use the machine.
That is why I feel giving them medications after testing them is the best priority for now,” she said.
She promised to sustain the outreach in subsequent years.
The Mother of the day and prominent Nollywood actress, Ngozi Ezeonu, described the gesture as commendable and worthy of emulation, praying for long life, good health and greater success for the celebrant.
“What she has done to uplift humanity during her birthday is worthy of note and a gesture society should embrace. Celebration will never cease in her life, and her children will also reciprocate her kindness,” she said.
