THE urgent steps taken by President Muhammadu Buhari to dispatch high-level delegation of Nigerian security heads to Sokoto and Katsina states in response to the recent killing of innocent Nigerians by bandits is one that should be commended.
The delegation led by National security adviser, Major General Babagana Monguno (Rtd), IGP Usman Alkali Baba, Director General of DSS, Alhaji Yusuf Magaji Bichi, Director General of Nigeria intelligence Agency, Ambassador Ahmed Rufai and Chief of Defence intelligence, Major General Samuel Adebayo are people that have what it takes to put an end to banditry with support from the right quarters.
The current situation of security in Nigeria has become so complicated and we need help from outside. The Federal Government should make necessary arrangements for external support because it has become obvious that Nigerian soldiers can’t win this battle alone. Our gallant soldiers have been trying their best to combat crime in Nigeria and some of them have been kidnapped and killed by bandits and Boko Haram members.
Those at the helm of affairs and have the interest of this nation at heart should be bold enough to advise President Buhari to call for support from those that have the apparatus that can help us in tackling insecurity in Nigeria.
Nigeria is under siege from bandits and other renegade groups as a result of many issues, prevalent among which is corruption. Nigeria is a good country with massive wealth and a large population of brilliant men and women. Those who have the means in Nigeria including our politicians and public office holders have employed bodyguards to guard them while the masses hope and pray form protection. It is time to think about the plight of poor Nigerians.
