Sequel to the outburst of the board of the Commission that they cannot be removed by the President except by the National Assembly supported by 2/3 majority, members of the Joint Union of the Nigeria Law Reform Commission has urged complete compliance with the Presidential directives on the dissolution of the commission’s board.
The call was made during a protest held by the union at the Federal Ministry of Justice in Abuja, demanding the intervention of the Attorney General of the Federation.
Comrade Macham A. Jang, who is spokesperson of the joint union, stated that the Commission’s board members, including the Chairman and the Commissioners, have introduced several anti staff policies.
He said: They have neglected the welfare of the staff for three years. Yet, they have been appropriating substantial sums of money for allowances, including fuel, GSM, car maintenance security, and medical expenses by an upward review.
“These allowances were considered double earnings because they were in addition to their regular salary, which is viewed as fraudulent and selfish.”
He further added that the staff have endured harassment from the board of the Commission and expressed doubts about the Commission’s need for its staff.
“Non-performance of the board of the Commission as a research base Commission, the Commissioners hardly attend any of the Research meetings.”
The Union also emphasise on the issue of Promotion of Staff in a case where some officer missed their promotion last year and about 60 officers are about to miss their Promotion this year also the board as concluded on their plans to sack 12 staff of the Commission.
He emphasises the importance of full adhering to the crucial decisions made by the president to dissolve the board of the commission.
