The state of Lagos-Abeokuta expressway was a subject of debate during a recent function held in the Itori axis of the road. The consensus opinion was that should prompt attention not given the road, it would soon turn to danger terrain.
Though a better stretch of the road, especially from Abeokuta to Itori is okay, to a large extent, neglect of few bad spots would make the road travellers nightmare. It is unfortunate that here in Nigeria, we like to allow problem to degenerate to the state of despair.
Already the road has recorded accidents some of which claimed lives and left other injured. These accidents were avoidable if the bad portions had been patched. I am, therefore, calling on federal government to mobilise its Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to the bad spots, especially from Sango to Ewekoro in order to save the better sections of the road.
We can say this call might be too late because the four-year tenure of this administration is almost over now. I am making this call to set agenda for the government against new tenure starting from May 29.
