The Kano State Commissioner for Finance, Alhaji Ibrahim Jibrin (Provost), has stated that the present government is determined to boost Internal Revenue Generation (IGR) and move away from a mono-resource-driven economy. The state government has introduced several economic strategies to achieve this goal.
He made this assertion on Wednesday while delivering a goodwill message at the opening of a workshop on Medium-Term Revenue Target Setting and Mainstreaming (MTRS) implementation held in Kano.
According to him, the present world does not favour countries that rely solely on one resource, and Kano’s situation, like that of Nigeria, has worsened due to the declining global price of fossil fuels and the shift towards alternative energy sources.
He hinted that due to these realities, the present Government of NNPP in Kano is making efforts to ensure that the state does not get left behind in adopting alternative measures to diversify the economy.
He emphasized that the world does not favour countries dependent on a single resource, and our situation has worsened with the decline in global fossil fuel prices as the world shifts towards other alternatives.
He assured that they are creating strategies to improve revenue generation to meet the aspirations of the people and deliver on the promises made to the electorate.
The present administration under “Abba Kabir Yusuf attaches great importance to all matters that improve the development of the state,” and internally generated revenue is a major driver in this regard,” he said.
Alhaji Jibrin appealed to the stakeholders to collaborate and develop a blueprint for internal revenue generation improvement within the target period to achieve the set objectives.
