The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in Kano have attributed Monday’s protest by the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) candidates to the crash of the local network at one of the examination centres.
JAMB Coordinator in Kano, Hajiya Karima Aminu, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday.
NAN reports that some candidates at one of the examination centres on BUK Road protests over the delay in the commencement of the examination.
Karima, who blamed the operators of the centre for the crash, said it was as a result of negligence.
She said that the examination body had over a month notified all the centres on the commencement day so that they can fixed everything to ensure success of the exercise.
“I was inspecting some of the examination centres when I was informed that the local network has crashed and candidates were complaining.
“It was not our network that crashed, it was that of the centre. We have made necessary arrangements from outside to ensure successful conducts of the exercise.
“But unfortunately, there was a little challenge with their network which led to protest by the students.
“I immediately sent some of my officers to assist the operators to ensure that everything is going smoothly.
“We thank God that we were able to sort everything out and the candidates have written their exams successfully.”
Karima said that since the commencement of the examination on Saturday in the state, there was no serious challenges except at that particular centre.
She called on the candidates who were yet to write their examination to remain calm as the examination body was doing everything possible to ensure a hitch free examination.
The Coordinator assured the candidates that the examination, expected to end on Saturday, would be one of the best compared to previous Computer base test.
NAN also reports that during a visit to some of the centres, the examination was going smoothly without serious challenges.
