The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has sought the intervention of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to address the alleged exploitation and fraud perpetrated by the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) in product distribution.
IPMAN made this call during a peaceful protest held by its members in Apapa, Lagos on Thursday.
Addressing the press during the protest, Folalu Ebenezer, the Secretary of IPMAN/NNPC PDO Forum, expressed the group’s full support for the removal of fuel subsidies but urged the president to investigate the various misconducts committed by NNPCL personnel.
Ebenezer expressed concern over the challenges faced by IPMAN members, stating that they were constantly required to make payments in advance through the NNPCL’s portal via Authority To Pay (ATP) for product loading at designated Private Depots (PDO). Unfortunately, he revealed that despite making these payments and receiving tickets to load products, many months had passed, and the members were yet to gain access to the products they had paid for.
“Some of our members have tickets up to nine months prior to the fuel subsidy removal by the Federal Government but have not been able to load products paid for even till now.
“Before the latest decision, there had been an increment in January 2023 in which our members were obligated to pay an additional one million and seventy-two thousand naira per ticket.
“Even after the payment of this unexpected increment, our members are yet to lift the products as promised. Presently, our members have over 4,500 tickets, including 500 Dynamic tickets, yet to be processed on NNPCL’s portal.
“However, after the latest announcement of the removal of fuel subsidies by the Federal Government, NNPCL is now asking IPMAN members who already have tickets for the products to pay an additional N13,702,000 for each ticket to the NNPCL,” he said.
IPMAN accused NNPCL personnel of diverting the products that its members had paid for to their private companies and to tank farm owners where the products were stored. They alleged that NNPCL was collaborating with both MOMAN and DAPMAN to engage in illegal activities against IPMAN members.
