On Tuesday, Hadiza Ahmed, 32, was charged with stealing N1.8 million in front of a Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court in Kaduna.
The defendant, a Makera Kaduna resident, is accused of stealing.
Ahmed committed the offence at some point in April at Kakuri in Kaduna, according to the prosecutor, Insp. Chidi Leo, who testified in court.
Leo claimed that the defendant had worked for Divine Trust Initiative PLC in Kaduna as a staff member but has since left the organisation.
He said that when the defendant was called back to give an account of the money she was controlling as a staff of the Cooperative, the management discovered the sum of N1.8m was missing.
The prosecutor continued by saying that when questioned about the money, she was unable to provide a convincing explanation.
He said that the offence contravened Section 217 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
The defendant pleaded not guilty in court.
Upon the non-guilty plea by the defendant, Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.
Emmanuel said that the sureties must be a blood relation to the defendant, and he adjourned the case until Nov. 16, for a hearing.(NAN)
