The Federal government has inaugurated a Joint Implementation Committee on digital literacy and emerging skills with the aim of training, empowering, and certifying over one million youths across the six geopolitical zones of the country in 2026.
Speaking while inaugurating the Committee in Abuja, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Dr George Akume, said that the inauguration represents a significant milestone in the federal government’s deliberate and strategic commitment to deepening national digital literacy, strengthening human capacity development, and promoting inclusive digital transformation in line with national development priorities.
He explained that the Joint Implementation Committee is “established to give practical effect to the strategic collaboration between the Office of the Secretary to the government of the Federation and the Clergy Wealth digital skills initiative being implemented.
“The Clergy Wealth digital Skill up initiative is 100% private sector sponsored. It is fully funded by them and implemented by them. The Federal Government of Nigeria bears no financial obligation, budgetary provision of funding responsibility in respect of this program.
“This, again, is a classic example of public-private partnership. This initiative aligns strongly with the federal government of Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda, the National Digital Economy, Policy and Strategy,” he stated.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary, General Services in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Dr. Ibrahim Kana, said that Nigeria is committed to achieving not less than 95% digital literacy by the year 2030.
“The task before this Committee is therefore both national in scope and strategic in importance. The joint implementation committee is expected to provide leadership, coordination and oversight for two critical national deliverables, which includes the planning and organisation of the National Digital Literacy Conference, which is scheduled for the end of this month”.
The SGF reaffirmed the importance of the rollout oversight and successful delivery of the training and certification of 1 million Nigerians in digital literacy and emerging skills under the future-proof economy model.”
Also speaking, the Deputy National Coordinator of ClergyWealth, Mrs Rosemary Ojochenemi Osikoya, noted that the objectives for the National Conference are to raise awareness about the importance of digital literacy.
“It is not rocket science. It is not something that is out of the reach of everyone. But then, it will also go beyond mere sensitization. It will also provide hands-on training in basic literacy, digital tools, online safety, and digital entrepreneurship.
“We also want to use this platform to strengthen Public Private Partnerships in the course of implementation of the digital literacy for each batch, it will span about six months period. We are going to go through six different models, and with these models will come international certification”.
She stated further that “It is going to be very robust, it is not just about touch and go, but part of what we would want to thank you also for is the confirmation of January, 28 and 29th for the two day national conference for digital literacy”.
The Deputy National Coordinator explained that ClergyWealth is a humanitarian and mass empowerment-driven social enterprise that is designed to promote the living conditions of the civil society and rural dwellers across Nigeria.
