Many of the recreation centres, shops and beer parlours in Enugu and its environs were beehived of activities as scores of people were seen drinking and dancing in celebration for the governor’s victory at the poll.
Some of the Enugu residents interviewed, however, noted that the victory of Governor Ugwuanyi at the poll did not come to them as a surprise, pointing out that the governor deserved the victory because of his people-oriented programmes and policies he had embarked upon in the four years running.
“Look, Governor Ugwuanyi victory at the poll is not a surprising thing to me, I saw it coming because he has no genuine opposition in the state. Secondly, Enugu is a PDP state and all the major power brokers and the people are with him. Our governor is kind, humble and he operates an inclusive government. I did not expect anything less from the electorate” Benjamin Okeke said in an interview.
Prior to the last Saturday’s election, Tribune Online had predicted that the odds favoured the PDP candidate largely due to his rising profile which led into his adoption by 70 opposition party candidates.
