Some party leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) under the Aniocha South Local Government in Delta State have accused a former ward 3 secretary of the party, Azubuike Christian Uwechue, of engaging in anti-party activities.
The accusation comes up as political parties in the state are set to compete for chairmen and councillor positions in the coming council elections slated to take place on July 13 in the 24 local government areas in the state.
The party leaders also accused Azubuike Christian of working with agents of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in order to ruin the chances of aspirants of the party and render the party incapable of defeating other parties in the Aniocha South Local government election.
Nelson, a party leader from Ward 3, alleged that Azubuike received a bogus amount of money from some aspirants under the All Progressives Congress (APC) to work against the PDP in the concluded council election.
He added that the former ward 3 secretary activated support bases and connived with some members of the party to work against some aspirants in the Aniocha local government because he had been bribed by the opposition.
Azubuike, while addressing his supporters, debunked allegations levelled against him and described them as the handiwork of politicians who are afraid of the support he’s receiving from party members across the local government.
According to Azubuike, these allegations are mere antics of my political opponents, who feel threatened by my political profile and acceptance in our beloved party, the PDP.
“Some leaders in the PDP are claiming that I am working for the major opposition party in the state, accusing me of anti-party activities, while some APC leaders see me as a threat in the coming council elections because I am a grassroots mobilizer. So I am not surprised if false allegations can fly up and down,” Azubuike disclosed.
He further disclosed that he and his family have been bombarded with threatening messages and calls from unknown numbers that I and my wife will be harassed and attacked.
“No politician will be allowed to force his candidate on us. Only aspirants chosen by delegates will fly the tickets of our great party. We will not allow fear to give unlawful permission to some leaders to choose for us, he added.
He also dismissed the allegation that he met and collected a bogus amount of money from APC aspirants.
‘This is the handiwork of the enemies. I have been a loyal and faithful member of the PDP since its inception as a political party. They just want to tarnish my image and set the people of our party against me,” he stated.
“I have made formal complaints to the police over the threats to my life and my family,” he affirmed.
