The Vice Chancellor of the Igbinedion University, Okada ( IUO), Edo State, Professor Lawrence Ezemonye, has commended the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Digital Bridge Institute (DBI), Prof. Mohammed Ajiya, for the provision of advanced digital skills training slots for the University.
Ezemonye gave the commendation while declaring open a one-week DBI Advanced Digital Appreciation Programme for academic and non-academic staff of the University at Okada Town.
He said the training and re-training of the staff of the institution on digital skills is part of school Management,’s strategic plan to consolidate the University’s Smart Campus regime which according to him informed the recent Huawei Academy Best I.T Academy and Most Supportive Vice Chancellor’ Awards conferred on IUO and its VC.
He said: “Digital Bridge Institute’s commitment to transforming the digital space in the country’s tertiary institutions of which IUO is a beneficiary, is praiseworthy indeed.
“It is emblematic of the future direction of the higher education landscape where Artificial Intelligence, robotics, virtual reality and other innovations are gaining preeminence.
“Let me reiterate our preparedness to run joint educational Programmes with DBI in the areas of co-design, co-development and co-delivery of specialised IT-related courses at both undergraduate and undergraduate levels.
“Deriving from our shared vision of internationalising our pedagogical profile to produce globally competitive future-ready graduates, IUO recently launched an international programme on Career Enhancement and Resilience Training (CERT) for all final students,” he maintained
While disclosing that the University has established strategic engagement with other foreign institutions and establishment to further its research and development profile, Ezemonye, submitted that IUO is on the verge of establishing a Centre for Open and Distance Learning, as well as building on the existing ICT platforms and infrastructure available in the school.
Earlier, the Project Director for DBI, Osaretin Enagbare, said the training was introduced and fully sponsored by the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC), with the aim of bridging the digital gap between graduates of various institutions and the requirement at the institutions, especially in the ICT space.
“We realised that there is a digital gap between fresh graduates from institutions and what is required by the industries. The NCC saw the need to bridge the gap and DBI was saddled with the responsibility of bridging this gap.
“Participants will be empowered with ICT and emerging trends in the ICT space. This knowledge would be transferred from the academic staff to the students, meaning, train the trainers,” he opined.
Some of the participants that include, including Prof. Deborah Odejimi (Dean of Post Graduate School), Mrs Odion Joan, Mr Endurance Osawe and Dr Ofure Oforemen, in their separate remarks, maintained that the training would further enhance their ICT skills in their various fields of endeavours.
They, however, expressed appreciation to the management of the University for attracting the training to the school.
