A Lagos State High Court located in the Tafawa Balewa Square area of the state has handed down a 14-year prison sentence to undergraduate Temitope Olowo for attempted robbery in the state.
Justice Yetunde Adesanya delivered the verdict to the convict, who was sentenced on a single count amended charge of attempted robbery following a plea bargain application.
Olowo was initially charged on November 9, 2018, with three counts related to armed robbery, but he pleaded not guilty.
The trial commenced, and the prosecution counsel, Olayemi Shofolu, called two witnesses to testify.
However, the defendant, represented by his counsel J. I. Osagede, sought a plea bargain agreement, leading to the amendment of the charge.
During the hearing, the prosecution counsel informed the court about the amended charge consisting of one count.
Shofolu informed the court that the convict committed the offence on July 26, 2017, at No. 1/3, Akowonjo Street, Lagos.
According to the prosecution, Olowo had attempted to rob Desmond Ifeanyi of his personal belongings, thereby contravening Section 298(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Olowo pleaded guilty to the charge.
Consequently, Justice Adesanya found Olowo guilty as charged and sentenced him to 14 years imprisonment.
The judge ordered that the sentence would be effective from October 16, 2017, the day the convict was remanded.
