The Association of Nigeria Cooperative Exporters (ANCE) Limited, which was established to primarily export cocoa products, last week Wednesday, diversified its business focus as it commissioned a pure water factory in Ibadan, Oyo State, to help contribute its quota to the well-being of Nigerians, as well as to reduce unemployment.
Speaking at the commissioning, the President of the group, Mr Solomon Olagbemi, said it had been the focus of his administration to diversify the economy of ANCE despite the paucity of funds just as he thanked God that the dream has been realised.
Olagbemi, who was re-elected as the president of the association alongside Chief Omisogbon Martins, Chief Omotaru Oye and Mr Akingbade Adegoke being on the executive, also commended his management team for working hand-in-hand towards realising the project.
The president said: “During our last Annual General Meeting (AGM), we set a target of starting a pure water factory by procuring a Dingli pure water packaging machine and truck. Today, the factory is in place with all the machines and equipment to start a pure water business.
“We have achieved a lot; when we came on board, we didn’t have much on the ground but today we have projects worth millions of naira and we are assuring our members of better representative in the coming year.”
The president who said the foundation of the cooperative was built on cocoa said “cocoa remains our business; we could not operate as an exporter some years back but now, we want to reclaim our top position.”
The Director of Cooperative Services in Oyo State, Mrs Medinat Adedeji, lauded the project, adding that it would add value to ANCE.
“The project is a welcome idea because it has lots of advantages, aside from the economic aspect, it will help in job creation, provision of service to society and addition of value to the organisation.”
