The Athena Centre for Policy and Leadership has hailed its Chancellor, Chief Osita Benjamin Chidoka, for what it described as his unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s development as the former Minister of Aviation marked his 55th birthday.
In a goodwill message signed by the Centre’s Adviser on Editorial and Thought Support, Sani Abdullahi, the organisation described Chidoka as a symbol of competent, intellectual, and structurally driven leadership whose career in public service and policy advocacy continues to inspire a new generation of Nigerians.
The Centre noted that Chidoka’s rise in public service has been marked by significant milestones, including his appointment as Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) at the age of 36 and later as Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation at 41.
According to the statement issued on Friday, Chidoka has consistently demonstrated a commitment to institutional reforms, quality management, and public sector efficiency throughout his career.
The Athena Centre also highlighted his academic accomplishments, noting that after earning a degree in Management from the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus, he pursued further studies in Maritime and Port Management at the National University of Singapore, Global Strategy and Political Economy at Oxford University, and Transport Policy and Logistics at George Mason University in the United States. He later fulfilled his ambition of becoming a lawyer by obtaining a law degree from Baze University and being called to the Nigerian Bar.
The organisation praised Chidoka’s contributions to cultural preservation and community development through his role in the Obosi Traditional Council, where he holds the title of Ike-Obosi.
It recalled that during his traditional investiture, Chidoka described himself as “a warrior of knowledge, enlightenment and the quest for truth,” pledging to restore Obosi’s reputation as a centre of education while rejecting “the creeping sceptre of ignorance and crime.”
According to the Centre, Chidoka now channels his experience into national development through the Athena Centre for Policy and Leadership, where he champions evidence-based policy research on governance, security, electoral integrity, infrastructure, and economic sustainability.
It added that his Mekaria Mentorship Programme has trained more than 9,000 young people across Nigeria and the diaspora, while the Athena-Anchoria Junior Fellowship equips emerging professionals with skills in public writing, financial literacy, and policy analysis.
The statement further noted that Chidoka has remained an advocate for democratic reforms, frequently calling for improvements to Nigeria’s electoral processes and institutional accountability.
Describing him as “the new face of Nigeria at 55,” the Centre said Chidoka’s combination of experience in law, logistics, global strategy, and public administration places him in a unique position to contribute to Nigeria’s national renewal.
“While we wish the Chancellor of the Athena Centre for Policy and Leadership many more years of God’s blessings as he marks his 55th birthday, we note with pride and inspiration his unwavering commitment to the development of Nigeria.
“Chidoka stands out as a leader who rejects empty political rhetoric in favour of standards, measurement, and accountability. Combined with his deep understanding of both federal administration and grassroots traditional systems, his hybrid background uniquely equips him to design and implement the structural blueprints that Nigeria desperately needs for national renewal,” the statement said.
