Causes of schizophrenia

Schizophrenia is a complex mental disorder, and its causes are not fully understood. However, research suggests that a combination of genetic predisposition, environmental factors, and brain chemistry differences can contribute to its development. Schizophrenia has a strong genetic component. 

Individuals with a close relative (parent or sibling) with the disorder are more likely to develop it themselves. It’s not just one gene, but rather multiple genes interacting with each other and with environmental factors that play a role. Children and siblings of people with schizophrenia have a significantly higher risk of developing the condition, and identical twins have a higher chance of both being affected.
