A 22-year-old car wash attendant, who absconded with a customer’s vehicle three days after employment, has been arrested by the police in Lagos State.
The image maker in charge of the state police command, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the suspect’s arrest to newsmen on Tuesday.
Hundeyin also stated that the suspect was arrested by the operatives of the Rapid Response Squad while trying to sell the vehicle.
The Lagos police spokesperson said in a statement, signed by him on Tuesday, ” Operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) have arrested a car wash attendant after he absconded with a 2012 Toyota Camry handed over to him for cleaning in Isheri, Lagos.”
S P Hundeyin added, “The suspect, Issa Muhammed, aged 22, was arrested on Sunday, September 9, 2023, in the Agege area of Lagos State where he parked the car to link up with a buyer.”
According to the police image maker, “Preliminary investigations reveal that the car was handed over to the suspect three hours earlier by the owner in preparation for a family outing later in the afternoon.”
“Mohammed, who was employed at the car wash three days before the incident, had removed the car number plate and discarded all identities linking the car to its owner immediately he arrived Agege.”
He noted that the suspect would be charged to court as soon as the investigation in concluded.
