Borno State Government is presently reviving sixty-two fire engines with a view to inject them into its depleted state fire fleet in the realm of insurgency.
Commissioner of information, Home affairs and culture, Babakura Abba Jato revealed this in a media briefing to mark one year of the Babagana Zulum administration in Maiduguri, Monday morning.
While hinting gentlemen of the press on developments in his ministry, the Commissioner said that eight fire engines have been purchased to revive the broken-down trucks in the kitty of the moribund state fire agency.
“with the new developments, fire stations in 1000 and 777 housing estates which had suffered a lot of neglect would be reactivated in the state capital. Personal Protective Equipment PPE would be
purchased for firemen while enhanced training has commenced for all firemen in the service.
“During the period under review, we have been able to establish a fire service training centre where the federal fire officers do come and train our people. As a matter of fact, a plot of land has been
acquired to build a brand new fire service training centre that will accommodate the federal officers when they come from Abuja.”

We have been able to improve on the fire service since we came and as a matter of fact, we hope to give them all their demands including ambulances and paramedics to take care of strange circumstances in which they are involved in meting out their services to the public.
The Commissioner revealed that with the new developments in the fire service, more stations will be established outside the state capital at zonal levels so that fire disasters can be reduced to the nearest minimum.
On community radio transmissions, he said that the state government has kept to its promise to establish a two kilowatts community radio station in Biu adding that the people of southern Borno and environs within two hundred kilometers right up to Gombe have been picking the signals.
Before this fiscal year runs out, the government equally plans to establish similar community radio stations in recently freed areas like Mungonu, Damasak and Dikwa so that the people will be reconnected to the workings of the government on a daily basis.
On training, Babakura said that the state government has constituted a committee for civil service reforms to take care of the capacity of all the members of the service including that of information which has been suffering from dwindling personnel over the years.
On cultural developments, he vowed to revive the sector adding that Borno has not attended any cultural festival in the last twelve years but things started changing from January 2020 as they have started attending national festivals and winning laurels.
