Young Farmers Association Ukpo, Anambra State, has lamented the escalation of economic hardship in Nigeria.
The Chairman of the Association, Mr. Onyeka Igbomoji, who spoke to Journalists in Awka on Monday, urged the government, civil society organisations and well-to-do individuals on the need for farm revolution in the country to curb the menace.
According to Igbomoji, “as it stands now everybody is crying about the hardship hitting on the country economy, and it seems to be getting out of control.
He laments that people can no longer afford three square meals, The hike in fuel prices, transportation costs, school fees and lack of funds is making life unbearable and difficult for everybody in across the country.
The Chairman adviced the need for government to saturate the communities with food, insisting that when food are subsidise, by encouraging Young farmers whom are ever ready to flood the market with food when provided with basic tools and resources, which will automatically result to sales of food stuffs at affordable prices for people to buy according to their income.
Igbomoji pleads with the Government, NGO’s, National and International Companies to come to the aid of the people mostly Dunukofia local government area of the State and its environs, supporting Young Farmers Cooperative to help curb the hunger caused by the economy hardship recently witnessed, which will equally reduce the social vices like kidnapping, land grabbing, armed robbery scamming and unknown gunmen activities.
The Chairman expressed concern over the increasing economic struggles faced by Nigerians, Anambra State and particularly Dunukofia indigent with basic necessities such as food and transportation, noting that many families can’t afford essential needs, as the situation is steadily deteriorating.
He emphasized that providing palliatives is not a long term solution to the hike in food and other commodities. Instead, he suggested that government should take proactive approach to empower Young Farmers Cooperatives to help lower the cost of food in the market at affordable prices.
