A suspected armed robber was neutralised by the operatives of the Ogun State Security Network, codenamed Amotekun, on Sunday, on the Odogbolu corridor of the Lagos-Sagamu Expressway.
A statement signed by the Corps Commander, Brigadier General Alade Adedigba (retd.), said that during the incident, which happened in the early hours of Sunday, one of the suspected armed robbers was shot dead, while another suspect, Amechie Okoro, who was arrested during a gun duel with the Corps, led the Amotekun operatives to their hideouts.
He said this also led to the arrest of another gang member, who had earlier escaped from the crime scene.
On interrogation, Amechie Okoro confessed to having just been released from Ikoyi prison last week Monday, while Michael Oko said it was the ringleader called Awuha who initiated him into the group.
The Corps Commander said the arrested robbers are members of the armed gang terrorising the Odogbolu Axis of Lagos-Benin Expressway.
Items recovered from them include one motorcycle with plate number Lagos KTU 668, twelve different types of phones, two locally made pistols, a sum of one hundred and thirteen thousand fifty naira (N113,050), one silver wristwatch, and one red headphone.
The Amotekun boss said the arrested robbers, Michael Oko, hail from Anambra State, but live at No. 3, Olufuwa Street, Ago Iwoye, while Amechie Okoro, who stayed at Agric in Ikorodu, Lagos State, and was just released from prison, hails from Onitsha, also in Anambra State.
He said the body of the dead suspect had been evacuated by the Police while those arrested would be transferred to the police for further investigation and prosecution.
