… produces 72 first-class honours graduates

Achievers University, Owo, Ondo State, has graduated 705 students at its 15th Convocation ceremony, with 72 of them earning first-class honours, as the institution reaffirmed its commitment to academic excellence, character formation and national development.

The convocation, which coincided with the university’s 18th Founder’s Day celebration, attracted dignitaries from across the country, parents, guardians and stakeholders in the education sector who gathered to celebrate the achievements of the graduating students.

Addressing the audience, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Prof. Bode Ayorinde, charged the graduands to embrace leadership anchored on integrity, courage and discipline as they step into the larger society.

Ayorinde warned that academic success without strong moral values could be dangerous, urging the graduates to shun social vices, particularly drug abuse, which he described as a growing menace among young Nigerians.

“Achievers University has not only equipped you with academic knowledge but also with character. Go out and become leaders of integrity who will make your families proud and contribute meaningfully to the growth and prosperity of Nigeria,” he said.

He stressed that education remains the most powerful instrument for national transformation, industrial growth and social stability, adding that any nation that neglects human capital development risks stagnation.

The Pro-Chancellor commended the resilience and determination of the graduating students, noting that many of them completed their studies amid economic challenges and global uncertainties.

In his address, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oyesoji Aremu, described the graduation of 705 students as a testament to the university’s steady growth and academic strength.

He disclosed that 72 graduands emerged with first-class degrees, a feat he said reflected the quality of teaching, robust academic programmes and a supportive learning environment provided by the institution.

“Our graduates have shown that excellence is attainable through hard work, focus and discipline. Achievers University remains committed to producing graduates who are not only academically sound but also globally competitive and socially responsible,” Aremu said.

He highlighted ongoing efforts by the university to strengthen its academic offerings, improve research output and provide modern learning facilities that meet global standards.

The convocation ceremony also featured the conferment of honorary degrees on distinguished personalities in recognition of their contributions to national and community development.

Those honoured included the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi; former Nigerian Ambassador to the Central African Republic, Col. Roland Omowa (Rtd); and Chairman of Jemmtek Resources Ltd, Mr Folajimi Adetula.

The awardees were commended for their leadership, service to humanity and positive impact on society, which the university said align with its core values.

Parents and guardians at the event expressed pride in the achievements of the graduating students and commended the university for maintaining high academic standards and a strong emphasis on character development.

The colourful ceremony, marked by academic processions, cultural displays and goodwill messages, underscored Achievers University’s vision of nurturing future leaders capable of driving Nigeria’s development through knowledge, innovation and ethical leadership.
