It was a day leaders of the ruling party the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), converged on Awka to celebrate the party’s recent victory over what it believed was the best electoral process in the history of elections in Anambra.
Speaking at the Alex Ekwueme Square, after taking the oath of office and allegiance, the governor said his emphasis would be on diversification of the economic base of the state.
He said investments in agriculture and tourism would be vigorously pursued.
“We will complete and put to use all our fish farms, cassava processing mills and other agricultural initiatives as well as hotelsand tourism facilities to create jobs for our teeming youths and complement revenue from other foreign investors coming into the state and that the youths and women would receive unprecedented attention from the government, he added.
He hinted further that the next four years would equally witness more aggressive investment in all the sectors of the economy, particularly in the rural farming, taking advantage of the 20million naira.
‘Community choose your project initiative’ across the 179 communities in the State, lead speakers at the event reiterated their earlier positions that the party, APGA remained the only answer for a prosperous Nigeria.
A former APGA national chairman, who was the director-general of the Obiano campaign group, but now representing the people of Anambra Central in the Senate, Senator Victor Umeh, told the crowd that that in the midst of democratic practices of the ruling Federal Government, the Anambra guber election epitomised the success of democracy in the country. Umeh while congratulating the people for the success of the inauguration, said Anambra offered a promising future for the nation’s democracy.
The member representing Anambra East State constituency in Anambra State of House of Assembly, Honourable Obinna Emenaka said people-oriented programmes of Willie Obiano and that of the APGA had shown that people would be on the side of the party in 2019 general election.
He charged the governor to continue his people-oriented programmes like that of giving aids to the vulnerable elders, widows, physically challenge persons and other youth empowerment schemes.
Dignitaries at the event included, the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi; Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State; Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State; Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State; Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State; Pleatau State governor Simon Lalong; Dr Chris Ngige, Dr Ifeanyi Ubah, Senator Andy Ubah among others.
Our correspondent who was at the event, gathered that as early as 9am people had started trooping to the Alex Ekwueme Square, venue of the swearing in ceremony and by 11:30am, the about 5,000 capacity event centre had been filled up with people.
The Deputy Governor, Dr. Nkem Okeke was sworn in around 2.15pm while Chief Willie Obiano took oath of office around 3:05pm.
