The defection of members of the Delta Unity Group, (DUG) in the Ika Federal Constituency of Delta state to the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been described as a great political breakthrough for the party.
Coordinator of the Tinubu/Shettima and Senator Ovie Omo-Agege 2023 campaign teams in the constituency during 2023 general election, Mr. Promise Ogumu, who made the observation, expressed satisfaction with the defection of the former members of People’s Democratic party to APC, saying it was a welcome development.
The group led by Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Barr Chiedu Ebie joined the APC during a rally held in Agbor in Ika South Local Government Area weekend.
Mr Ogumu, a former house of assembly aspirant for the Ika-North East in a statement said: “It brings me immense joy to welcome the Delta Unity Group into the APC family.
“Politics is a game of numbers, but when quantity meets quality, it becomes a divine blessing. As we celebrate this historic convergence of like minds, we give glory to God and look forward to reshaping the political future of Delta State through collective strength and shared vision.”
Affirming DUG’s commitment to the APC’s vision, he described Senator Ovie Omo-Agege as the most qualified candidate to lead Delta State into a new era of development.
“This is a huge win for our party,” he stated, adding that “Senator Ovie Omo-Agege and other leaders are working day and night to liberate Delta from PDP’s grip. President Tinubu is leading the charge to build a prosperous Nigeria, and it is encouraging to see DUG stand behind this national vision.”
Ogumu assured DUG members of equal treatment and full integration into the APC, saying “Our party welcomes everyone equally. Whether new or old, every member has the same rights and responsibilities. What matters most is your dedication and contributions.”
He noted that the defection was a reflection of the PDP’s decline, saying “The PDP is faltering, and the APC is gaining momentum. After our congress and primaries, we will host a grand rally to mark this pivotal transition.”
Ogumu also highlighted the instrumental role played by Senator Omo-Agege in strengthening the APC’s base, not only in Ika but across Delta State. “He’s a true leader in this political journey,” he said.
