Yoruba One Voice (YOV), the Coalition of over 174 Yoruba groups in Diaspora, has called on all South-West governors to draw inspiration from the successes of the sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s Western Region agenda for comprehensive agricultural, education, social and economic templates for effective social security of the people of the region.
The coalition made the call in a 14-point communiqué it issued at the end of its international webinar conference, which had in attendance over 1000 prominent Yoruba sons and daughters, including professors, doctors, technocrats, academics, and other Intelligentsias.
YOV in particular called on the governors to lay more emphasis on what it termed unified contextualized education and agricultural development across the region for its sustainable development.
“That YOV admonished all the South-West governors to draw inspiration from the success of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo’s Western Region agenda for comprehensive agricultural, education, social and economic templates for effective social security.
“The group also urged the governors to lay more emphasis on unified contextualized education and agricultural development across the region, for Oodua Republic sustainable development,” the communiqué signed by its General Secretary, Dr Sina Okanlomo and Publicity Secretary, General Secretary, Mrs Omoladun Orolugbagbe said.
According to the coalition, this approach should be adopted in order to ensure food security in the region, among others, even as it affirmed its strong opposition to what it called outdated open grazing system across the South-West, urging “farmers and other stakeholders involving in farming to cultivate proper ranching structure using it as a private business.”
YOV, while expressing its commitment to the actualisation of Oodua Republic by pursuing vigorously the struggle for self-determination considering the long years of misrule, nepotism and failure of the Federal Government to embrace true Federalism, further expressed its total displeasure at the spate of insecurity across the country, vowing that the region cannot continue to play a second fiddle in a country that thrives in corruption and deceits.
The coalition said it was in total support of South-West Security Network codenamed operation Amotekun, urging the six governors in the region to give the necessary support for the smooth operation of the security outfit.
YOV, while saying it was resolved to do all within its powers to ensure lasting peace and unity among all the groups in South-West states, however, urged the Oyo State governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, and the State Commissioner of Police to release unconditionally the three members of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) that were detained on account of the alleged arson and murder charges against them by the State Police Command.
“That YOV is committed to ensuring a formidable synergy between all groups in the Diaspora as well as all groups in Nigeria that believe in the actualisation of Oodua Republic
“That YOV admonished all groups to be wary of joining other groups that are bent on using the 2023 election as a ploy to frustrate and mortgage our future and destiny.
“That YOV had resolved to continue its International Webinar Conference quarterly to enhance proper human development and capacity building among the various groups that make up the organisation,” the communiqué read.
