We will rid Bayelsa of criminal ― State Police Boss

Against the backdrop of crime and criminality in different parts of the state, the Bayelsa State Police Commissioner, Asuquo Amba has said no stone would be left unturned in a bid to flush out criminals of Yenagoa, and the coastal communities of the oil and gas rich state.

The Police Commissioner gave the assurance when he paid a courtesy visit to Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State in Government house, Yenagoa.

Amba said that within two weeks of resumption, he has continued to match words with action, adding that the command has arrested a suspected dare devil kidnapper, and that 10 vehicles have so far been recovered from the syndicate, while investigations are on-going in all the cases.

He told the Governor that, the state government’s policy of zero tolerance for crime and violence was in sync with the Inspector General of Police directive to all the commands in the country.

The Police Boss pointed that within the period, the Police had apprehended a syndicate comprising two ex-soldiers specialized in stealing parked vehicles, using master keys and 5 persons suspected of vandalizing the state-owned gas turbine.

Amba, who noted that though the state has a peculiar terrain, particularly the mangrove, meandering creeks in the coastal communities where over 70 percent indigenes resides, assured the Governor that the command has redouble it arsenals and strategy to comb every creeks and waterways to outlaw criminals from the state.

The Police Boss, was emphatic that there would be no sacred cow, and that they are prepared to tackle crime frontally with no preference to political parties cleavages, because crime is crime and if culprits are treated with kid gloves society would be in anarchy and chaos.

He, however, noted that some security operatives would operate as undercover agents in order to shield their identity from perpetrators of crime and criminality in the state, even as he noted that they would be deployed to schools, markets, government premises and the waterways to smoke out criminals.

To this end, Amba solicit the cooperation of the media and public to come up with useful information, as his office remains open to entertain receive them at all time.

Earlier, Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State has called on the state police command to set up a motorcycle patrol unit in a bid to extend its dragnet to all nooks and crannies of the State.

While assuring Amba of his administration’s total support in his efforts to make Bayelsa State crime free, the Governor called on the Police to “flush out criminals, including kidnappers, pipeline vandals, cultists and their sponsors.”

He also cautioned against the politicization of security related issues in the state, stressing that, the matters of security should be treated strictly as such without any political undertones.

Dickson urged the State Command to collaborate with other security agencies in the state towards sustaining the existing peace, as a peaceful and stable atmosphere is paramount to attracting investments and development.

His words: “You have a crop of dedicated and well-meaning officers and men in this command and we are proud of the work they do.  So you have our support.”

“The only thing I always say, when Police Commissioners come, is that in Bayelsa we don’t condone politicization of crime. Crime is crime; crime has no colour, no creed and crime has no political affliation. And that is the golden rule we want to see observed.”
