The management of GiriToday has announced that, beyond connecting sellers with buyers irrespective of their locations around the globe, the new e-commerce platform aims to address some glaring issues that have continued to erode confidence and trust in the e-commerce space.
Speaking at a virtual media briefing over the weekend about the new platform set to debut on February 10 next year, the CEO and Founder of GiriToday, Wale Ayantoye, identified pricing as one of the contentious issues the platform seeks to address. He noted that the prices of products are often determined by the social status of the buyer.
“Most sellers don’t put price tags on their products but wait to know the social status of the buyer before doing this. That is why many in the diaspora, or people of means, avoid using their international numbers or international social media accounts to reach out, as these could be used to determine the price at which such goods would be sold. The advent of GiriToday is to eliminate this practice and ensure authentic African products are purchased at local prices,” he stated.

Ayantoye also highlighted another issue the platform aims to tackle: the frequent contradictions between the products displayed and what is eventually delivered to buyers. This has been a general complaint in the e-commerce space. To address this, the platform will deploy a team of experts to verify and review every product to ensure they meet the described specifications before delivery. Additionally, the platform will provide buyers with the opportunity to get their money back if they are dissatisfied with the delivered products.
He expressed confidence that the advent of GiriToday would enable individuals and enterprises, especially those in Nigeria, to connect with buyers from anywhere around the globe. According to him, the platform creates opportunities for artisans, bead makers, fashion designers, and others to sell their goods to buyers in any part of the world. Sellers will also be paid at the current exchange rate to ensure profitability.
This initiative is expected to bring significant improvement to the e-commerce landscape by restoring trust and providing a seamless connection between sellers and buyers globally.
