NATIONAL President of the Nasrul-Lahi-L-Fatih Society (NASFAT), Alhaji Kamil Bolarinwa, has called on Muslim leaders and other stakeholders to increase their support for Islamic education and help to reduce illiteracy in the North and the high rate of employment in the country.
Bolarinwa, a former Director-General of the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC), stated this last weekend during a Ramadan lecture/iftar hosted by a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, at his Jericho, Ibadan home.
He said currently, there was a high concentration of illiteracy among Muslim children in the North, noting that such a problem was beginning in the South-West and this could spell doom for the country.
“We need to work to have world-class schools. We need to get our Muslim children back to school. I want to call on all our Muslim dignitaries to increase what you are doing for Islam.
“With the rate of illiteracy in North of the country, coupled with increasing rate of unemployment and out-of-school children in the South-West, danger is looming and we must be ready to arrest it. That is why we are calling on all of you to support what we are doing at Fountain University to practically do something,” he said.
Two Muslim scholars, the Chief Missioner of NASFAT, Imam Mahroof Abdul Azeez Onike and Professor Afis Oladosu of the Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies, University of Ibadan, delivered lectures at the well-attended programme.
The host, Prince Fagbemi (SAN), said the programme was in continuation of his contributions to the promotion of Islam.
“The major reason for organising this event is to bring together the house of Islam, help one another and help in the development of Islam in my own little way. I have always loved living within the tenets of the religion,” he noted.
