Wamba Science School urgently seeks Nassarawa govt’s help to prevent collapse

Nasarawa State Government has been urgently called upon to intervene and save the dilapidated structure at Government Science School, Wamba, in order to encourage learning and teaching.

The call is conveyed through an open letter titled: ‘Collapse of Learning Structures at the Government Science School Wamba – An Open Letter to His Excellency, Engr. A. A Sule, Executive Governor, Nassarawa State,’ signed by Idris Usman Suleiman, National P.R.O. WOSA. Copies of the letter were made available to journalists in Bauchi on Monday.

The letter reads: “Compliments of the season. Wamba Old Students’ Association (WOSA) is a National body of members who completed or started their Secondary School since its establishment as ‘Akwanga Community Secondary School Wamba’ in 1972.”

Idris Suleiman stated, “The School has a checkered history to its glory, having undergone some transitional changes. It was a former Middle School under the Native Authority; former Senior Primary School; former Akwanga Community Secondary School; former Government Secondary School and presently, Government Science Secondary School.”

He further wrote, “It is an understatement to say that the School, having come this far, is a citadel of knowledge and reputable in that regard. The School has produced numerous personalities across the state and country who are contributing to the development of the nation in their respective capacities.”

“Your Excellency, it is worthy to mention at this juncture that, since you assumed office as Governor of Nasarawa State in the 1st tenure and a few months now into your 2nd tenure, the standard of education has improved tremendously in the state, with a focus on Education, Science, and Technology. This is commendable and appreciative indeed,” The letter further stated.

The WOSA National PRO added, “Your Excellency, while commendable efforts are being made by your administration to rebuild, rehabilitate, and in some cases, reconstruct dilapidated or collapsed learning structures and facilities across the state, the state of decay of learning facilities at the Government Science Secondary School Wamba, in particular, is worse than any other.”

According to him, “The roofs of most of the blocks of classrooms, male and female students’ hostels, as well as those of the Library and Laboratory, were completely blown off by wind and rainstorms. The situation is very hopeless and indeed calls for a state of EMERGENCY on the School unless URGENT rescue measures are taken.”

He also wrote, “In light of the above and considering the high premium His Excellency places on Science and Technology Education, the Wamba Old Students Association (WOSA) appeals to His Excellency to, as a matter of URGENCY, award a contract for the total rehabilitation or reconstruction of the Government Science Secondary School Wamba, in order to rescue it from total collapse. A stitch in time saves nine.”

He concluded by stating, “While appreciating in anticipation of His Excellency’s quick and positive response, may the Almighty God guide, protect, and bless you.”
