A valedictory lecture will be delivered on Friday in honour of Professor Gabriel Adeyemi of the Department of Geology, University of Ibadan, who will be retiring from the services of the university upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 70.
The event, which will include a book presentation by the professor, according to a statement from the organisers, will take place at the International Conference Centre of the university from noon.
The lecture will be delivered by Professor Ibrahim Oyediran, a professor of Environmental and Engineering Geology from the Department of Geology.
The lecture entitled ‘Engineering Geology and the Sustainability of Structures and the Environment: The Edunabon Manuscripts’, the organisers said, is meant to celebrate Professor Adeyemi’s contributions to the field of geology.
Oyediran, an expert in environmental and engineering geology, will highlight Professor Adeyemi’s work which has had a significant impact on geotechnical engineering and geological investigations in Nigeria, the statement said.
Adeyemi, born in Edunabon, Osun State, in 1954, earned his B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), Ile-Ife, in 1980, 1986 and 1991, respectively.
