The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has issued a recall for several Irish cheeses due to the possible presence of listeria, a harmful bacteria that can cause serious illness.
Consumers have been advised not to eat any products from the implicated batches.
Among the recalled cheeses are Horgans Irish Smoked Cheddar and 30 different Old Irish Creamery blended cheeses, sold at Tesco and Spar stores.

The affected batch of Horgans Irish Smoked Cheddar has a use-by date of May 25, 2025.
The Food Standards Agency in the UK has also issued recall orders for these products.
Listeria infection can cause flu-like symptoms, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea. In severe cases, it may lead to serious complications, particularly for pregnant women, babies, and individuals with weakened immune systems. The incubation period ranges from three to 70 days, with an average of three weeks.
To prevent the risk of illness, retailers have been instructed to remove the affected batches from sale and display recall notices at points of sale.
Wholesalers and distributors must notify affected customers, recall the implicated batches, and provide recall notices.
Caterers have been advised not to use the recalled products.
