The Vice-Chancellor of Trinity University, Yaba, Lagos, Prof Clement Kolawole, has declared that the university is on the right track to fulfil its tripartite mandates.
He also noted that the university is not only for academic excellence but also focuses on employability entrepreneurial skills and good character for its students irrespective of courses of study.
He gave this position at an event, tagged: ‘Campus Flaws’ with no fewer than 800 senior secondary school students and teachers from private schools across Lagos in attendance.
The event, which was second edition and held on campus on Wednesday in conjunction with the Etiquette Poise and Protocol Resource (EPRA), a private consulting firm, featured career talk, debate, drama and facility tour, among others.
According to the vice-chancellor, the overall objective of Trinity University is not about profiteering like many other universities but to produce well-rounded and fit-for-purpose graduates across disciplines and also conduct societal-oriented research work and community services.
He disclosed that within the space of six years it was established, the university now offers a total of 19 programmes in various disciplines with all of them fully accredited by the National Universities Commission(NUC), the nation’s university regulatory body as well as relevant professional bodies for professional courses among them.
The vice-chancellor, represented at the event by the Dean of Basic Medical and Applied Sciences, Dr Modupeola Adetunji, pointed out that the university had capable workforce and a conductive environment that inspires creativity, innovation, ingenuity, and robust curriculum that produces the total-man with impeccable character and leadership skills
He said that was why the university is exposing its students to things that can add meaningful value to their lives now and in future while also cautioning them against unruly behaviours such as cultism, examination malpractice, hooliganism and so forth.
He noted that Campus Flaws is a platform to expose particularly the senior high school students to essential societal values that would guide them on career choice and right behaviour leading to greatness in life.
The event, he added, will equally afford participants to network, collaborate and consider the university a right place to study for higher education.
“So, at Trinity University, we prepare students to become responsible global citizens.”
Speaking earlier, the university’s registrar, Mr David Oyejide also emphasised the need for students to have a solid foundation to build on for a secured future.
He promised that the university would continue to be guided by its core values rooted on principles of academic excellence, discipline, leadership, Godliness, integrity, and responsibility.
In their separate remarks, the duo of Messrs Kunle Remi and Tobi Makinde, both renowned actors, encouraged the students to study hard and also be alive to other endeavours that would prepare them well for the future.
They equally admonished them to shun practices such as cultism, exam malpractice, hooliganism, drug abuse and so forth that capable of truncating their destinies and rather be focussed, hardworking and God’s fearing as they move on with their academic pursuits.
Some of the students, however, told Tribune Online that they would make good use of the knowledge gained back home.
