If you’re a fan of Afrobeats and a regular user of TikTok, chances are you’ve witnessed the viral trend and challenges surrounding the song “ALI Go To School” in 2022.
In the ever-changing landscape of the music industry, digital platforms like TikTok have emerged as powerful tools for promoting and popularising songs.
With its unique ability to showcase talent in a short and captivating format, TikTok has become a breeding ground for viral hits.
In this article, we explore the journey of my song “ALI” and how its rise from obscurity to success was made possible by the influential platform known as TikTok.
TikTok’s role as a marketing tool, combined with its highly engaged user base, played a pivotal role in propelling “ALI” to become a hit, impacting not only its popularity but also its long-term sustainability.
The Story Behind “ALI”: I collaborated with my brother, who also happens to be my music producer (Zestaahbad), to create “ALI Go To School.”
The song was an unplanned creation that took shape in our sitting room. The flows, melody, and lyrics flowed naturally, and we dedicated time to perfecting it into a song that exuded street vibes and greatness.
While speaking with Steven Adeoye, he explained the peculiarities of the song. According to him, the catchy and humorous hook of the song was the key element that made it go viral.
It sparked the imagination of listeners, depicting the struggles of a young boy in academics who ultimately achieve success. Hundreds of thousands of videos were made with each person who created content for this song bringing their own unique perspective, understanding, and creativity to interpret the song.
“ALI Go To School” was already gaining traction on TikTok, and its danceable and catchy nature further propelled it into the mouths of everyone. Even before I took the microphone at a show, everyone was already singing along. Steven Adeoye said.
It turns out that creating a TikTok song is not just about the platform itself. When you create a great song that finds its way to becoming a hit on TikTok, there’s a higher chance of increasing your fanbase and streams.
People initially listen to the song to determine if it’s worth replaying, and that’s what matters to me. Creating a song with high replay value, relatable storylines, and a unique vibe is crucial.
Unlike most songs that only blow up on TikTok and fade away, “ALI Go To School” became a viral sensation both online and offline, with audiences recognising it beyond the TikTok viral moment.
The success of “ALI” serves as a testament to the transformative power of TikTok in shaping the contemporary music landscape.
Through its innovative features and engaged user base, TikTok has opened up new avenues for artists to gain recognition and connect with a global audience.
As the music industry continues to evolve, embracing platforms like TikTok has become essential for aspiring artists, as they hold the potential to turn unknown songs into chart-topping hits.
