The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Ekiti state has apprehended three suspects for their alleged involvement in the rape and sexual abuse of a physically challenged victim.
The spokesperson of the NSCDC in Ekiti, Afolabi Tolulope, revealed on Thursday that the suspects, Sunday (19), Olajide (19), and Elijah (38), were arrested in the state capital, following a complaint by the victim.
“The suspects were arrested in Ado Ekiti after a desk officer in the People With Disability Unit went on a sensitization visit to the School for the Deaf in Ikoro-Ekiti where the victim personally wrote a letter to the unit on the alleged rape and sexual assault encountered by her from these three suspects,” Afolabi stated.
He further revealed that the state commandant, John Fayemi, has urged parents and guardians to be watchful of whom they entrust their wards to, especially the vulnerable ones.
“The State Commandant Mr John Olatunde Fayemi warned parents to take adequate care of their children, especially those living with challenges. Some irresponsible men like these people are out there to molest and defile helpless special children,” Afolabi added.
“The suspects will be made to face the full wrath of the law by charging them to the court of competent jurisdiction after the conclusion of the preliminary investigation by the Command,” he concluded.
