While the governor has since begun the campaign for the local government elections in the state, the senator is expected at a reception being put together by his supporters at Korna Dangora, the same Tuesday and venue.
Both hitherto political allies have been at each other’s throat over the control of the structure of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Kwankwanso, who has not visited Kano since he was elected in 2015, is said to be planning to use the occasion to visit the Kano central federal constituency.
However, security operatives are trying to prevail on the senator to shelve his visit to stave off trouble, a move that was being resisted by his supporters.
The imminent clash between the loyalists of the senator, under the aegis of Kwankwasiyya, with those of Ganfujiyya, has triggered apprehension among Kano residents who have consistently called for peace.
Meanwhile, the supporters of the senator have threatened to hold the police responsible if anything should happen to him and his supporters during the visit.
Making the statement on Saturday in Kano while addressing newsmen, a former Secretary to the State Government (SSG), who is the chairman, reception committee, Alhaji Suleiman Bichi, had berated the state Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Yusuf, following his statement that Kwankwanso should shelve Tuesday’s visit.
Yusuf had said intelligence report indicated that some unscrupulous elements planned to smear Kwakwanso’s image by hijacking the event to cause mayhem in the state.
But Bichi alleged that Ganduje had threatened Kwankwanso would not be allowed to come to Kano through his spokespersons, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, Commissioner for Special Duties, Musa Iliyasu Kwankwaso; Commissioner for Rural Development and Abdulmajid Danbiliki.
“The trio, at various times, threatened not to allow the senator to come to Kano. The most dangerous threat came from the newly appointed Commissioner for Special Duties to the governor, Abdullahi Abbas, on 15th January, 2018, who directed the followers of the governor to resist the senator the day he comes to Kano.
“The foregoing clearly shows that they are not only after stopping him from visiting Kano. It is now clear that the CP knows those planning the mayhem and he’s in a position to neutralise, arrest and prosecute them.
“Should anything happen to Senator Kwankwanso, or any of his supporters during the visit, the Kano State Commissioner of Police, Mr Rabiu Yusuf, should be held responsible for dereliction of his responsibility,” he said.
