A lecturer from the Department of Surveying & Geoinformatics, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Dr. Olukemi Ayoade Olunlade, has expressed concerns at the lack of basic understanding and knowledge of Surveying and Geoinformatics, due to paucity of resource materials.
Olunlade expressed the concerns at the launch of his latest book, “The Surveying Handbook: Basic Theory and Field Manual”, in Oshogbo, the Osun State capital.
According to the scholar, it has become imperative for stakeholders, especially scholars in the field of Surveying to come up with urgent solutions, so as to preserve the standards of the profession.
He explained that his decision to come up with the new book, stemmed from the need to put basic ideas together to serve as a first handbook of every intending graduate of Surveying.
“The beauty of the book is that it gives knowledge in its raw form. Hence, students of different fields of study in Environmental Studies enrolling for Surveying and Geoinformatics, as a minor course, would grasp the basic knowledge of the course also.
“With this book handy in the hands of graduate field officers, there is no field challenges that would be encountered and remain insurmountable,” he added.
In his review, the Head, Surveying and Geoinformatics, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile- Ife, Dr. Caleb Oluwadare described the new book as a truly significant contribution to the field of Surveying.
He expressed the belief that the book will serve as a vital resource, since it will go a long way in addressing a core challenge in Surveying education and practice: theory and application gap.
“It provides a balanced approach, seamlessly integrating fundamental theories with the practical field operational techniques essential for students, field technicians, and operation technologists navigating the realities of diverse field operations,” Oluwadare added.
