The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed social media reports claiming that Sunday Igboho issued an ultimatum to herders to leave the South West.
In a statement signed by the command’s spokesman, Adewale Osifeso, the police stated that there is no truth to the voice note circulating on social media.
The command described the reports as “misleading and complete falsehood,” stating that there is no evidence to support the claim that suspected separatist group members evicted herders in Igboho, Oorelope Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The police also noted that the viral video that surfaced on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, was “specifically designed by agents of mischief” to incite violence and disrupt the peaceful atmosphere in the state.

The release added that “the viral video which surfaced during the early hours of Tuesday, 16/07/2024 was specifically designed by agents of mischief to disrupt the relative peaceful ambience enjoyed in the State by inciting violence and civil disturbances”.
It further stated that “no notice of eviction was pronounced by any individual or group on anyone at any period in time.”
Furthermore, the statement said the Commissioner of Police has tasked the supervising Area Commander in charge, to personally lead confidence-building patrols, as well as to increase the visibility of personnel around the jurisdiction, while more command’s operational, intelligence, and tactical assets have since been deployed to prevent any untoward occurrence.
