Stop parading yourself as palace’s son, Oba of Benin tells LP’s Akpata

The Oba of Benin, His Royal Majesty Oba Ewuare II, has urged the governorship candidate of Labour Party in Edo State, Olumide Akpata, not to describe himself as a “child of the palace”.

This came after Akpata repeatedly referred to himself as a “son of the palace” during a courtesy visit to the traditional ruler in his palace on Saturday.

Akpata, during the visit, was accompanied by former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi.

But the Oba, in his response, noted that he had asked one of his chiefs to verify Akpata’s claims, only to find that the candidate had no direct links to the palace.

“You are an industrious son of the soil, but to say you are a child of the palace, I am not aware that any of my children is contesting or is a politician.

“So I need to make that clarification for the sake of the public and the fourth estate of the realm,” the Oba said.

He also disclosed that he had in the past supported Akpata during his days at the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) days.
