Security forces and vigilantes have killed many bandits in a clash which erupted in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State after foiling an attempt by bandits to rescue one of their arrested members.
The incident occurred on Thursday morning when a group of armed bandits stormed Kurawa village, attempting to free a gang member captured after robbing a commercial motorcyclist the previous day.
According to a local resident, “the bandit had been arrested while refueling the stolen motorcycle and was handed over to security operatives.
“In retaliation, the gang launched a rescue mission, killing three villagers before facing fierce resistance from the army and vigilantes.

“The bandits came in large numbers, but they were met with stiff resistance. Many of them were neutralized, while two were captured alive,” the source said.
A lawmaker from the area, Alhaji Sa’idu Ibrahim, confirmed the attack, stating that at least four dead bandits were found in the aftermath, though many more may have been taken away by their comrades.
Meanwhile, efforts to get the Sokoto Police Command for reaction was not successful as the spokesman to the command, DSP Ahmed Rufai, could not be reached as at the time of filing this report.
Local authorities however praised the swift response of the security forces in repelling the attack.
