Students of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, at the Muftau Lanihun College of Education, Ibadan campus, have been advised to shun cultism, indecent dressing, examination malpractices, prostitution, and other social vices and be good ambassadors of the institution.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Olugbenga Ige, gave this advice on Saturday during the matriculation ceremony of 1,200 new students of the institution at the Muftau Lanihun College of Education Ibadan study centre.
Professor Ige said the matriculation ceremony symbolises the commencement of an incredible journey filled with boundless opportunities, growth, and transformation for every student as they step into university life.
“Your admission to Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, and today’s ceremony mark significant milestones in your lives. You are embarking on a journey that will shape your future and contribute to the growth and development of our great nation, Nigeria.
“I extend my warmest congratulations to you, our dear students, for successfully gaining admission to Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko. Your exceptional academic ability, dedication, and determination have earned you a place in our university. This matriculation ceremony is a testament to your commitment to academic excellence and the pursuit of knowledge. Hold onto this spirit throughout your time here.
“As you embark on this new chapter of your life, seize the opportunities that lie before you. Our university is renowned for its commitment to quality education, innovative research, and community engagement. “While pursuing your studies, guard your admission and studentship jealously. Avoid all forms of vices, including examination misconduct, cultism, rape, indecent dressing, and sexual harassment. Such behaviours are forbidden and will not be condoned. Severe actions will be taken against offenders without fear or favour. Additionally, ensure timely payment of tuition fees and completion of registration procedures.

The VC assured the new students that the university will be with them all the way through their academic sojourn, stressing that his office runs an open-door system that gives room for complaints and suggestions that will move the system forward.
“Remember, you are not alone on this journey. The management of AAUA and Mufutau Lanihun College of Education is committed to providing you with unlimited access to quality education and facilities to make your campus experience worthwhile.

While addressing journalists shortly after the matriculation programme, the provost of the university at the Muftau Lanihun College of Education (MULCOED), Professor Abiodun Gbolagade, said many higher institutions in Ibadan now see the school as a rival, while stressing that they are in Ibadan mainly to provide academic excellence.
He also advised the students to be law-abiding and follow the due process of the institution.
“I will love to advise the entire student body to be law-abiding citizens of the country and follow the rules and regulations of the institution. They should be good ambassadors of the institution and shun cultism.” He stated.
Talking about the accreditation exercise for the courses being offered by the school, Prof. Gbolagade said soon the institution will host officials from the National University Commission (NUC) to upgrade the accreditation of some of the courses already accredited and also to accredit some other courses.
“Muftau Lanihun College of Education is not a small fry when it comes to academic excellence, and we are waiting to welcome NUC for our accreditation exercise. We are of the opinion that they will not be disappointed when they come.” Professor Gbolagade stated:.
He added that the school runs both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, especially PGDE.
