Tragedy struck over the weekend at Gbongan, in Ayedaade local government area of Osun State, when a septuagenarian and his wife were allegedly strangulated to death by unknown persons.
The incident was said caused tension in Abekoko area, via Iwo road, in Gbongan, where the aged couple resided.
Tribune Online gathered the assailants were able to perpetrate the gruesome murder and escaped due to isolated location of the couple’s residence in the area.
Confirming the development in a press statement made available to journalists in Osogbo, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mrs Folasade Odoro said the incident was reported to Gbongan Division of the Nigeria Police by the son of the deceased couple, Mr Caleb Akanbi.
According to the statement, Mr Rueben Akanbi, aged 70 years and his wife, Mrs Victoria Akanbi were allegedly strangulated to death overnight by unknown persons, who secretly gained entry into their home.
While stating that Police had already commenced thorough investigation to fish out their killers, Odoro said that their corpses have been deposited at the morgue of Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital (LAUTECH), Osogbo.
Meanwhile, one man identified as Joseph Abifarin (35) had murdered his senior brother, Mr Ayo Abifarin (40) in Otan Ayegbaju of Boluwaduro local government area of Osun State.
Joseph was said to have used big stick to smash the head of his senior brother’s head and later killed himself after the reality of the dastardly act dawned on him.
