Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has urged the Ogonis to eschew division among themselves and work with his administration to enthrone lasting peace in Ogoniland.
The Governor gave this charge on Thursday at the 31st Ogoni Day celebration held at the Birabi Memorial Grammar School in Bori Town, Khana Local Government Area. Represented by his Deputy, Prof. Ngozi Nma Odu, Governor Fubara stated that his administration plans to urbanize communities in Ogoniland.
He emphasized that urbanization would become evident when the ongoing reconstruction of internal roads in Bori Town extends to other communities in the council.
“We do not take lightly the local government areas in the senatorial district, and Ogoni block is a major component of this senatorial district,” Gov. Fubara stated.
He added, “Bringing development to Ogoni is a top priority of this administration. We have discussed electricity and security in Ogoniland, and these are the government’s foremost concerns.”
Governor Fubara underscored the importance of a peaceful atmosphere for achieving planned development activities in Ogoniland, urging everyone to embrace peace. “I plead with everyone to join hands and bring peace to prevail across the state because without peace, unnecessary division will arise. We don’t need that now,” he urged.
The Chairman of the occasion and Gbenemene Tai, HRM King Samuel Nnee, mentioned that the Ogoni Day celebration provides an opportunity to renew their resolve to safeguard the freedom and rights that God has granted to the Ogoni people.
Khana Local Government Chairman, Dr. Thomas Bariere, also emphasized the need for Ogoni people to unite, look inward, harness their strength, and work diligently to achieve a better Ogoniland as envisioned.
