A Chieftain of the New Nigerian People Party (NNPP), Honourable Damilare Abioro, has asked the Ogun State government to rejig the security architecture in the state.
The call is in reaction to the rising cases of security challenges in the state, especially the murder of Director of Finance and Account in the office of the Governor, Late Taiwo Oyekanmi, by armed robbers in Abeokuta, the state capital.
Abioro, reacting to the incident while addressing journalists after meeting with the Retired Divisional Crime Officer (DCO) in charge of Idiroko Police Station, Adebisi Olusegun, described the incident as disheartening.
The politician explained that the killing in the state has shown that there are lapses in the security arrangement in the state.
He added that the manner in which the late state accountant died also showed complicity of the security agency as the victim was exposed to death when no security escort was attached to him for such errands.
“It is unheard of for a state to send its officer on such a risky errand without a single security officer attached to him. Its a very poor security arrangement in its entirety.
“If an official of the Governor can be murdered in such circumstances without the criminals who perpetrated the heinous crime arrested immediately, this calls for concerns.
“Several cases of killings ranging from cult clashes, money rituals, kidnapping, among others must be nipped in the bud without further delay” he said.
Abioro, however, called on Governor Dapo Abiodun to immediately summon an urgent security summit to deliberate on how to address the rising cases of security challenges across the state.
Meanwhile, The NNPP Chief described the Retired DCO as a thorough bred police officer who upholds the tenet and professionalism of the Nigeria Police Force.
Abioro while congratulating him, asked other policemen to emulate him while appealing to him not to relent in contributing to the security development in the country.
