A former presidential candidate and Chieftain of the All Progress Congress (APC), Mr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has initiated efforts to further forge cohesion in the country. Accordingly, he has visited some former governors as part of the “mission to rebuild the bridge of national unity across the country.”
His first point of contact was the North West, where he met former Governor Ahmed Markafi of Kaduna State.
The 67-year-old politician is a former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and was governor from May 29, 1999, to May 29, 2007. He was elected Senator for Kaduna North in April 2007 on the platform of the party.
Olawepo-Hashim noted that Markafi was “governor in our class of ’99, and he left a legacy of ethno-religious tolerance in Kaduna State.”
From Kaduna, the train moved to the North Central State of Benue, where Olawepo-Hashim also met with Samuel Ortom, the immediate past governor of the state.
Ortom was also Minister of State Trade and Investments during the presidency of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan.
Ortom, according to Olawepo-Hashim, remains “a great leader of the Middle Belt region” and “we chatted on how to reconcile the home.”
