About 40 houses got their roofs blown off by a storm during a downpour which occurred last Thursday in Owu-Kuta, Osun State which left some residents a tale of woes.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that the rainstorm lasted for about 30 minutes.
A part of the palace, a public primary school, mosque and shopping complex built by St Peter’s African Church were among the structures destroyed by the rainstorm.
According to the Olowu of Owu-Kuta, Oba Adekunle Oyelude, the incident had brought out the communal spirit of his subjects and expressed his gratitude to the understanding demonstrated by his people.
The traditional ruler said he was holding a meeting in the palace when the rain started and the storm removed some parts of the roof of the palace.
“It was not a good experience watching the way the rain destroying property in that manner. It is only the grace of God that even minimised it. It could have been worse. But I thank God, the maker of rain. We asked for shower of blessing and we believe He will not forsake us in this circumstance,” he said.
The traditional ruler said never had the town witnessed such an occurrence since he ascended the throne in 2012.
He called on the Osun State governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, to embark on sensitisation of the public on tree planting scheme.
While also thanking the governor for his message to him after the incident, the traditional ruler spoke on why property owners need to be encouraged to plant trees in their surroundings with a view to reducing effect of rainstorm.
“I want to thank the officials of Ayedire Local Government Area of the state for their solidarity visit to the palace,” he added.
Oba Oyelude also commended the governor for what he described as his quick response to the clash in Ile-Ife-Ife.
He said the clash was unnecessary and assured the affected people of the government’s readiness to ensure justice is done and lasting peace achieved.
