An academic and cleric, Prof. Dapo Asaju, on Wednesday urged Nigerians to promote and protect the unity of the country rather than working toward its disintegration.
Asaju, the Vice-Chancellor, Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo and a Bishop in Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), spoke at the ongoing three days International Conference on African Pentecostalism (ICAP) at the Redemption Camp, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
He said: “God who created us as one country did not make mistakes; we have sacrificed too much blood in this country. This country must remain one, let us solve the problem.”
“Let the voice of the church be heard now that God is the God of Nigeria, He wants unity in Nigeria.”
“Breaking away is not the solution anywhere, let us solve our problems.”
“We don’t want war, we don’t want any problem, let us support the present government.”
“Other Asian countries have developed. Africa has not developed.”
Asaju said that South Africa was a developed country when the white was in power.
He said now that black man was ruling, the situation was no longer the same.
“What is wrong with black man?”
“We have the people, we have the brain, our people rule them all over the world, the best doctors, go to Germany, go to everywhere Nigerians are shining.”
“We have a lot of brilliant people who are doing great everywhere. Why can we have brains like this and we are suffering this way?”
“Everybody is just groping in the dark, we must unite, Christians, Muslims, denominations let us come together, let us fix this country,” he said.
