The Imo State Police Command has re-arrested three suspected escapees from the Correctional Centre, Owerri.
Their arrest followed sustained monitoring by the detectives from Oru West Division, who successfully rearrested one Cosmas Mbamara who hails from Ohakpu area of Mgbidi in Oru West LGA of Imo State and escaped from Correctional Centre, Owerri on 5th April 2021 during a jailbreak.
In a statement endorsed and by the New Police Public Relations Officer of Imo Police Command, SP. Bala Elkana said that the suspect was facing trial for murder when he escaped from the correctional Centre.
He added that on the same date the Surveillance Team also arrested one Okafor George Chisomo, 35 years old, from Ezeachi Area in Orlu Local Government Area of Imo state.
The suspect who was arrested at Umuaba Village, Orlu LGA during a well-coordinated operation was involved in series of murder in Orlu and environ.
According to the PPRO, the escapee was already facing murder charges at Orlu High Court which happened in November 2019 where he slaughtered one Matrida Eboh.
He escaped from the Correctional Centre, Owerri, during the jailbreak.
In a related development, detectives from Okigwe Division rearrested one Nwankwo Levi, 35 years old, of Okigwe area.
The suspect was arrested on 13th May 2021 in his hideout at Okigwe as he was facing charges of kidnapping and armed robbery before he escaped from the Correctional Centre, Owerri, during the said jailbreak.
The arrests of the escapees followed the directives of the Commissioner of Police, Imo State, CP Abutu Yaro, to Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Commanders of Tactical Units, to ensure that prisoners who escaped from the correctional centre are rearrested to face justice.
The CP enjoined the public to continue to support the Police with credible information while he ordered that the suspects be handed over to Nigeria Correctional Service, Owerri.
