Cross River State Police Commissioner, CP Gyogon Augustine Grimah, has warned the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) leaders that the planned nationwide peaceful protest should be staged at the NLC Secretariat.
At a meeting with NLC leaders at the command headquarters in Diamond Hill, Calabar, CP Grimah emphasised the importance of maintaining a peaceful atmosphere during the protest.
He explained that this approach was intended to ensure that miscreants would not have a chance to disrupt the protest and cause chaos.
Meanwhile, he advised leaders of the NLC to address the press, express their discontent, and then disperse peacefully.
Furthermore, he called for putting the interests of the state and the well-being of its people first.
“The police command is committed to upholding the rights of citizens while ensuring the safety and security of all residents in the state.
“We urge all stakeholders to cooperate with law enforcement agencies to guarantee a peaceful and successful protest that upholds the principles of democracy and civic engagement.
“The Cross River State Command has resolved to provide adequate security coverage to the public during the protest, he concluded.
Meanwhile, Tribune Online observed that the exercise in Cross River State on Tuesday, February 27, was sparse as few workers came out to protest, possibly because the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) had backed out of the protest.
It was also observed that the State Secretariat was open and all the staff of all state MDAs were working; only the Federal Secretariat was locked.
